Petals and work now online

Being self employed I rarely get that Friday feeling, but after being stuck at a desk all day and seeing the sun is valiantly trying to sneak back out I have a little inkling of it which I'm going to embrace, but before I sign off for the day I wanted to share a few new bits and pieces of work.....the first two are now available from my big cartel shop and the second are available on the Malcolm Sutcliffe Glass Gallery site.

I also have work in two new galleries. The Junction Art Gallery in Woodstock, Oxfordshire and the &Collective in the Bridge of Allan.

Have a happy weekend!

The year in books: May 2015

This year has got off to a good start reading wise and thought it was about time to start sharing some of my recent reads on here by taking part in The Year in Books 2015 hosted by Circle of Pine Trees.

I have never been part of book club, but I love to read and talk about books so I decided to give this a go.

I haven't quite finished The Accidental by Ali Smith yet, but I'm down to the last few pages. A really original style that took a little adjusting to but from the early stages I was full of admiration for her skill in being able to write in a number of different styles and from contrasting viewpoints across one novel.....very clever. I'm definitely intrigued to find out where it takes me.

I find Cormac McCarthy both challenging and rewarding in equal measure. I really enjoyed both The Road and his Border Trilogy, his descriptions of landscape are at times achingly beautiful, but this time he got the better of me. Outer Dark was dark to say the very least, too dark for me. I was pulled in by the first paragraph but it ended there, he takes bleakness to another level here. I persevered, but I think this is one of the rare times I will not keep a book, this one is charity shop bound for someone else to grapple with.

Lastly, although I think I read this in March but I've been desperate to share it, is The Man Who Couldn't Stop: OCD and the true story of a life lost in thought by David Adam. I heard him talking on the radio a while back and even though I don't suffer from OCD myself I could identify with some of the things he was talking about and I knew I needed to read this book. I thought it might be quite a challenge so it stayed on my bookshelf for a few months before I decided it was time. Everyone should read this book! It is all at once compelling, fascinating, moving, absurd, tragic and incredibly relevant to all of us whether we suffer from OCD or not.

My choice for May is Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer another one that has been on my bookshelf for quite a while waiting for the right moment.

A week in pictures....

.......and what a lovely week it has been. After feeling somewhat cheated when we saw the forecast for our impending holiday to Wales it turned out to be a wonderful few days of blue skies and sunshine (still an icy wind to remind us we were still in April). We returned home to miserable rain, murky skies and a rotten cold so today I'm dreaming of the past week and keeping myself topped up with endless hot drinks. We spent a happy few days exploring parts of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, taking in towns, villages, castles, abbeys, magical forests, invigorating hills, stunning coastline and the odd river.....we like to pack it all in!! I had to be quite ruthless when choosing my images this week, as I got quite snap happy and there were more than a few to choose's a little taster...

A week in pictures

.....well it's not strictly a week, I have been meaning to return to my much neglected blog for quite some time now, but yes that old excuse......TIME.......has been getting the better of me. Finally after a spring clean and new look to my blog I am back with a fresh resolve and much needed enthusiasm. To kick things off I thought I would share a few snaps of some of the things that have been distracting me of late. With all this wonderful weather I have been sneaking in a few after work walks to soak up the last of the sunshine, the other weekend I finally dusted off my bike and took it for a spin and I even found the time for a spot of printing.

The months have been whizzing by and it's been so long since I last blogged I daren't even look. The nights are drawing in and things are getting busy and whilst I'm not quite ready to mention the word, I am however prepared to tell you that the time has come to be making baubles again....I now have a new selection available online here.
